Frédérique Chlous
visual artist
Born in 1958, after studying at the Julian Academy, Esag, then at the Beaux-Arts in Paris,
I continue research linked to the problem of the body, time and memory.
I use for my work as well the drawing as the object, the performance, the video film and the installation.
“JUST LIKE A ROUND…”
Just like a round, a show where the story is invented as it goes along.
I work to rediscover the use of memory, collective, family and orphaned by a world; to resist erasure inevitable, to deceive the absurd.
I want to signify this reality which no longer has a face, a legacy of this procession of horror, which it is useless to ignore.
I always want to represent the body. The body, its moving and forbidden matter under the flesh, often fragmented, to the point of formlessness. It can also become a fragment of the world, an abstract object, unusable in daily experience, a shadow in empty places, overwhelming with absences, it is always there, present to our gaze.
In this struggle, to gather evidence of the journey of life, drawing would be for me the search for something that I have lost, something magical, a dialogue with everything that “looks” at me.
